Cryo Lift and Microcurrent in Body Contouring: What They Do

Cryo lift and microcurrent photon are lesser-known but valuable modalities in body contouring. This guide explains how they work and where they fit in a comprehensive treatment offering.

What is cryo lift?

Cryo lift, or cryotherapy lift, uses controlled cooling to tighten and tone the skin. Unlike cryolipolysis (fat freezing), which targets fat cells, cryo lift is primarily a skin-toning and tightening treatment that uses cold temperatures to stimulate circulation, reduce puffiness, and improve skin firmness.

In a multi-function body contouring machine, cryo lift is typically used as a finishing treatment after cavitation or RF, or as a standalone skin-toning treatment for the face and body.

What is microcurrent photon therapy?

Microcurrent photon therapy combines low-level electrical currents with light therapy (LED) to stimulate cellular activity, improve skin tone, and support the effects of other body contouring treatments. Different light wavelengths target different concerns — red light for skin rejuvenation, blue light for acne-prone skin, and other wavelengths for various applications.

In body contouring, microcurrent photon is often used to support skin tightening and improve the overall appearance and texture of treated areas.

How these modalities complement cavitation and RF

A comprehensive body contouring treatment plan often combines multiple modalities. Cavitation targets fat reduction, RF targets skin tightening, vacuum therapy supports lymphatic drainage, and treatments like cryo lift and microcurrent photon support overall skin tone and texture.

Understanding how to combine modalities effectively is a key skill for a body contouring specialist. The right combination depends on the client goals, the treatment area, and the equipment available.

Are these modalities safe?

When performed by a trained practitioner following appropriate protocols and contraindication guidelines, cryo lift and microcurrent photon are considered safe non-invasive treatments. As with all aesthetic treatments, contraindication screening is essential, and clients with certain health conditions may not be suitable candidates.

Professional training ensures you understand the safe application, contraindications, and appropriate use of each modality in your equipment.

Learn all seven modalities in one course

The National Aesthetics Training certification covers seven modalities in a single one-day intensive course — 40kHz cavitation, 80kHz cavitation, bipolar RF, vacuum RF, six-polar RF, microcurrent photon, and cryo lift. Graduates learn how to combine these modalities into effective treatment plans for their clients.
